> OpenKernal OS is an India-developed phone software platform built on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), made by Weu Innovations Private Limited for Indian smartphone brands to ship under their own name. It is in development and Weu is inviting a small number of Indian brands to pilot it.

## What it is
- A white-label Android experience for phone brands: launcher, design system, themes and icon packs, and redesigned Camera, Gallery, Phone, Messages and Settings apps.
- Installed inside the brand's own Google-certified Android build, so Google Play, Google apps, banking and UPI apps keep working.
- Built for affordable phones first: a Lite profile for 4 GB RAM and a Standard profile for 6 GB and above.

## What it fixes for Indian buyers
- No ads, no promotional folders and no sponsored notifications in system apps.
- Every preinstalled app removable; no duplicate apps.
- Smooth performance on 4 GB phones; honest background-app behaviour.
- Built-in call recording where the law allows, spam call flagging, OTPs sorted and cleared, scam links blocked.
- On-device diagnostics so more repairs are fixed on the first visit.

## Camera and AI
- OpenKernal Imaging: multi-frame capture and on-device enhancement tuned for Indian skin tones and light.
- Modes: Photo, Portrait, Night, Video, Pro (manual shutter, ISO, exposure, white balance, focus, RAW), Time-lapse, Hyperlapse, Slow-mo, Panorama, AR Studio, Document, Dual view.
- Gallery AI on the phone: collections by face, place and thing; background removal; erase people and objects; relight; natural-language search.
- Cinematic Pro, Weu's flagship video editor, built in: https://cinematicpro.app

## Ecosystem
- Instant pairing and battery status for the brand's watches, earbuds and speakers; one clipboard with the PC; handoff; find all devices; one health app; setup that moves to the next phone.

## Data control
- OpenKernal itself sends no user data anywhere: not to Weu, not to China, not to any third party. Brands choose where their services are hosted, including in India.

## Live demo
- https://openkernal.com/demo/ is a working OpenKernal phone in the browser: lock screen, home, quick panel, Settings, Camera (Pro mode, video), Gallery (AI edits), Phone (calls, recording), Messages and Calculator.
